How this works
•An organizational needs assessment. Enlace staff conduct interviews and work with the staff and/or member leadership of the organization to develop a specialized training design based on an in-depth analysis of the top leadership’s goals.
•Workshops designed to provide training, planning, strategizing, evaluation, organizational development and regeneration assistance to ensure that the organization is equipped to accomplish what the leadership intends and to sustain a proactive mode in continuing their work.
•Follow-up/evaluation between workshops by Enlace staff members to ensure the success of the program.
•On-going training (in addition to the four workshops) of a coach to serve as an internal resource to the leadership of the organization. Participating organizations are required to assign a peer trainer to the Enlace Institute.
The individualized series for organizations is a set of strategic planning sessions that is created to fit an organization’s needs. Enlace conducts an in-depth organizational analysis and creates a series of tailored workshops and trainings that enable directors, staff, and leaders to become more strategic and focused in their work. These trainings give organizations structured processes for continually improving teamwork. Enlace provides tools to look with a critical lens at what they currently have and help them to create systems in areas that are lacking. They improve participation levels, mutual accountability, the usefulness of meetings, and strategic planning for effective campaigns and innovative programs. This series helps an organization develop the capability to undertake campaigns that they were previously unable to tackle.
•Evaluation and analysis of what works and what doesn’t within an organization
•Organizations improve structure and dynamics through use of systems
•Provide tools for organizational development in an experiential setting
•More effective and focused campaigns
Enlace partnered with SINTTIM (Sindicato Independiente de Trabajadoras y Trabadores de la Industria de la Maquila) in the Seafood Worker Justice Campaign.
The North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) worsened working conditions in Baja California Sur, Mexico. Worker cooperatives were replaced with foreign owned maquiladoras, creating more slave labor and dangerous working conditions. Read more
Alternative, nourishing, caring, holistic organizational replenishment

Crisis come in all forms, whether they be external or internal, deriving from a campaign or personal differences– they impact the organizations work. Enlace has experience working with organizations to manage conflicts and crises.
Danny Park, Executive Director, Koreatown Immigrant Workers Alliance: “Enlace brings a unique understanding of our work as well as a long-term strategic vision for the Market Workers Justice Campaign…The experience of Enlace staff was particularly important. Enlace's objective input helped those of us immersed in the day-to-day work of the campaign broaden our vision and think and plan more strategically. The session on strengthening and improving internal communication, KIWA's decision-making structure, supervision structure, and creating internal reciprocal accountability shifted the ownership of the organization to all the staff and ownership of the campaign to the workers. This ownership is giving staff and workers revived energy to create new and innovative strategies and the courage necessary to tackle new areas of the campaign.”
Sherri Chiesa, Executive Vice President, Western Director, UNITE HERE!: “I highly recommend Enlace’s training program. We used Enlace techniques to transform our San Francisco local from a chaotic union threatened with near collapse because of employer assaults and internal divisions, to what has become one of the most effective organizing locals in our movement today.”
Developing Worker Led Organizations
Strengthening the Environmental Justice Movement
Bus Riders Unite!, a new grassroots membership program of the OPAL Environmental Justice in Portland, consulted with Enlace from 2010 to 2011. From Enlace's consulting emerged the Campaign for Fair Transfer with a 2 year plan. In March 2015, OPAL won! They won greater distribution of benefits to and unfettered freedom of mobility for transit dependent riders through a 2.5 hour transfer, and a $1.3 million mitigation fund.
Strategic Long Term Planning
Enlace facilitates a long term planning process, which includes organizational assessment, strategic campaign development, creating a year plan, and identifying capacities and capabilities needed in order for the organization to accomplish the plan. Enlace provides follow-up training for staff and member leaders, support during the implementation of the year work plan, and a mid-year evaluation.
Enlace has facilitated long term planning for hundreds of low-wage worker organizations since 2000. In 2014, Enlace facilitated strategic long term planning for VOZ in Portland and STRACC in Mexico. In 2015 we are working with NICE in New York and AMI in Mexico.
