CD RELEASE

Enlace is pleased to announce the release of a new CD—“Our Voices Will Rise for Justice/ Nuestras Voces Se Levantan Para La Justicia”. Written by low-wage workers in the U.S. and Mexico, the songs tell the stories of immigrants and factory workers, of day laborers and domestic workers, of workers in food processing plants and kitchens - they tell of courage, strength and resistance. Songs such as these are usually written to commemorate specific events or acts of courage; they are seldom recorded and are often lost to history.

Featured on the CD is the voice of Betty Robles, Mexican organizer in the northern border state of Coahuila. Betty has been inspiring workers with her songs for many years - her voice has been compared to that of Miriam Makeba. Portland-based Jesus (Lolo) Rivas serves as the CD’s musical director, songwriter, vocalist, and instrumentalist. He appeared in the documentary Bread and Roses. The creative organizer and executive producer is Jenny Levison, local social justice activist, writer, and performer.

All proceeds from the CD go to benefit Enlace, a collaboration of U.S. and Mexican labor organizations that build trans-national campaigns to fight trans-national corporations. Enlace affiliates seek to change the balance of power between the rich and the working poor—in other words, to create a more just world.

The music is stunning and the songs are powerful. This is a powerful educational tool for people who want to learn more about immigrant communities and labor issues. The songs are in Spanish, with detailed liner notes, including narrative song translations. These songs tell the stories of strength, courage, and resistance. These are the voices of our movement, and Our Voices Will Rise For Justice.
