Coach Series
The coach team provides organizations with tools for deciding on a strategic direction and for evaluating the internal structure of an organization and the structure of its campaigns. The coaches learn frameworks and they use them in their own organizations for planning and evaluation. This year we held two coaches trainings. In these trainings, we introduced the Integrated Organizing Approach and taught the coaches how they can use it in their own campaigns. They also learned planning processes called frameworks. One of the trainings was on May 11-12 and the other on July 21-22. In the May training the coaches learned a framework called Strategic Direction that includes an analysis of the most strategic obstacle, its impact on the functional capacity of the organization, and how to best deal with it. In addition, they learned the Evaluation Star framework that can be used to evaluate any program, event, or an organization’s structure to bring focus to needed improvements. The July training began with a review of the Strategic Direction framework, facilitated by the coaches who attended the May training; then we continued with the Organizing Cycle framework, which is used to maximize effectiveness in the design and the planning of an event, an action, or a program. The coaches worked in pairs to develop a plan for an event that they would carry out in their own organizations. We concluded with the Rap framework; each one of the coaches learned this Enlace framework to write a rap and then had the opportunity to practice it. Participants in these trainings were the coaches: Irma Solis (The Workplace Project); Evelyn Urrutia (Tenants’ and Workers’ Support Committee); Chhaya Chhoum (Committee Against Anti-Asian Violence); Guadalupe Hernandez (The Garment Worker Center); Mirna Verdugo (Sindicato Independiente de Trabajadores y Trabajadoras de la Industria Maquiladora – SINTTIM Independent Union of Workers in the Maquiladora Industry); Veronica Raigosa Lara (Sindicato Independiente de Trabajadores y Empleados del SABES – SITESABES - Independent Union of Workers and Employees of SABES); Joe Fahey (Teamsters Local 200), Joann Lo, and Lorene Scheer. |
